No Counrty For Old Men #2
My outside readin book is No Country For Old Men. I still have not really started this book yet. So far in the book this guy is about to be put to death for murdering sombody. He is in prison and he is being taken to the electrical chair. They put him down in the electrical chair and he grabs the sheriffs hand and throws him to the ground. He murders about 3 people I think to get out of prison. Some how nobody noticed any of this happen and he gets away unseen and unharmed. Since I am now finished with reading The Road hopefully I will have time over to break to read at least 100 some pages. When I finish this book I want to watch the movie and compare the movie to the book to see which one I enjoy more.

No Counrty For Old Men
For my outside reading book I am reading No Counrty For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. The reason I chose this book is because I am really enjoying the book The Road and I thought I would try another one of his books to see if I like it. I have not yet started the book yet but I have heard good reviews on both the book and the movie. I have not seen the movie yet but I have been wanting to for awhile now. All I know about the story is that a guy finds a pickup truck surrounded by a group of dead men. Inside the truck is a load of heroin and two million dollars. The guy takes the money and sets off. In my opinion I think that sounds really good and I am hoping it will be just as good as The Road.

The Road
In Guys And Lit I am readin The Road. So far the book is suprisingly really good. I have only read about 30 pages so far and im really enjoying it. I think that the plot is really well done. the story is about a father and sun trying to survive and make their way to the Eastern Coast of North America. The entire North America is blown away by what I think might be a nuclear bomb since there is radiation everywhere. As the father and son travel East, each of them have few to none possessions and have to wear masks so they don't breath in the bad air. Little does the son know about his father and his sickness which will later on effect both of them in the story.
Right now i have not chosen an outside reading book but i am planning to choose one tomorrow for sure since I need it for Friday.

Halo 3
Halo 3 is my favorite game for the Xbox 360. This weekend there was the finals for the MLG. Which stands for Major League Gaming. It was held in Las Vegas. The winner of this tournament received 100,000 dollars for first place. The top 8 teams in the U.S were there. One of the teammates on Str8 Rippin (the winner) left highschool during his junior year to compete in Halo. He left highschool about 8 years ago and he is 22 now playing for the same team. He has now received of 2 million dollars by playing halo and he is sponsored by Panasonic and Dr.Pepper. Dr.Pepper has signed a contract with MLG and it allows MLG to put Tom Taylor(the guy who left high school his junior year) on 150 million Dr.Pepper bottles with the MLG logo on it. Tom Taylor is not the only person who has received over 1 million dollars by competing in Halo. So far there has been around 4 or 5 but they have been competing professionally for at least 5-6 years. So one day my goal is to play at a level as high as theirs and I am fine not making any money because being a professional gamer is a bit impracticle. I currently have a halo team and there was a tournament in Minneapolis and I placed 3rd out of 140 teams and we made about 100 each for winning but i still have a long ways to go to compete in Las Vegas.

The Odyssey #2
I ended up really liking the Odyssey much more towards the end of the book. The reason i think i liked the end of the book is because there is much more action for example the slaughter of the suitors and Polyphmus. I have to say my favorite part of the book is when Odysseus kills all of the suitors. The reaosn i like this chapter so much is because Odysseus should be really made that they harassed his wife and ruined his palace. Also Odysseus showed a lot bravery by taking on all the suitors with his son, Telemachus. Odysseus also had to be smart with his return because if he just ran into his palace when he got back to Ithaca to see his wife the suitors would have killed him but instead he planned out the death of the suitors. All in all, I really enjoyed reading the Odyssey and i would not mind reading it again. I recommend this book to everyone for its adventure and great stroyline.

The Odyssey
Overall I think that The Odyssey is a really well written book. Even though it is really difficult to read at times i really love the story line. I think the book is better as a storing being told like Homer did but it is still really good as a book. One thing I would change about the book is that I would add more about Achilles and Troy. The reason for this is because i really love the story of Troy. In chapters 1-12 the story line is a bit boring to me because my favorite parts of it is the part when they are on Polyphemus's island. The beginning of the book was bit slow with some of the chapters but as you get further into the book the more exciting it gets. I think The Odyssey is wonderful novel and I am excited to read more.

Chemistry Sucks
Chemistry is probably the hardest class i have taken. In all my classes i have taken this year so far i have at least a B+ but not chemistry. I have a C+. I think chemistry is pointless who is ever going to need to no how many electrons are in certain elements and stuff. I bet no even 5 percent of the whole world use the periodic table on a daily basis for the use of their work. I mean at least twice the amount of people use what they learn in language art or math in their life but no not chemistry. Chemistry is a waste of time, and on top of it its boring to learn. I study at least 1-2 hours for the test and a keep on getting C's and D's. The reason i went into enriched chemistry is because physics was a joke it was the easiest thing every my final grade was an A. I highly doubt my final grade in chemistry will be near an A. I am hoping to pull of a B and a B+ if I am lucky.

Wisconsin
During MEA my family and I will be going to Wisconsin. We are leaving 10 in the morning on Friday. At 8 on Friday i will be taking my license test and hopefully I will pass. My family is renting out a cabin somewhere in Wisconsin. We are meeting my cousins from Iowa and Ohio there. The last time I've seen my cousins from Ohio was about 4 years ago so I am excited to see them except Anna, she's annoying. We are only going to have about 2 and a half days in Wisconsin but it will still be fun. When we're in Wisconsin we are going to go hiking the first day. The second day the kids will go paintballing in the woods then we'll probably end up playing Halo and watch movies. The third day we are going to go into town untill 2 then we are all going to be going home.

LOTRBFME/ Lord of the Rings
Personally i think Lord of the Rings is the best trilogy/movie ever made. The reason i think this is because its not only a great story line and adventure but it also the characters. For example personally think Merry and Pepin are great characters not only because they are funny but because they are adventerous. Another reason why i liked these movies so much is because they have intense battles. For example in the second movie the battle for Helm's Deep was a great battle as well as the battle Middle Earth. I only saw the last two movies in theatres because i was too young to see the first one in theatres. These movies also have made video games. In my opinion i do not like the video games that much just because its a bad quality. I have read all of the Lord of the Rings books and now i am reading the Hobbit finally.

A Journey I intend to take.
A journey i would like to take would be to go to Australia, New Zealand, or Italy. I can't make up my mind between those three. The reason I want to go to Australia is because I have relatives down there and they told me its amazing. The reason I want to go to New Zealand is because the Lord of the Rings was filmed there. The reason I want to go to Italy is because many of my friends have gone there and they say its a fun trip and the food is also good. I want to take these trips with my friends because they are more fun than my family, even though my family is pretty fun.
The Hobbit
My outside reading book is the Hobbit. The reason i chose this book is becaude i think the three Lord Of The Rings movies are the best movies ever created. So far in the book Bilbo was sitting outside and then a stranger walked up to him and started to talk to him. Bilbo didn't reconize this stranger so he tried to get rid of him in the most polite fashion. After the stranger stopped talking Bilbo realized who it was. It was Gandalf!!!!!(the grey not white)!!!! Bilbo was so happy to see his old friend for the first time in many years. Gandalf was about to go home when Bilbo asked him to come over the next day to have tea. Gandalf accepted his invitation. Once Bilbo went inside his house which was located in the Hills. Gandalf used his staff to carve a sign on Bilbo's door. The following day when Bilbo was expecting Gandalf for tea the door bell rang assuming it was Gandalf. Bilbo walked to the door and in his suprise it was a dwarf. The dwarf invited himself in and sat down. Once he sat down another dwarf appeared at the door. Once those two settled down in Bilbo's house two more dwarfs appeared at his front step. Then another 5 appeared. Bilbo was in shock and had no idea what was possibly going on. The door bell rang for the last time and it was finally Gandalf and another dwarf. Gandalf told Bilbo that he invited all of the dwarfes and he wanted Bilbo to join him on an adventure.
That is all I have read.
That is all I have read.

Indy 500
This summer my friend and I drove down to Indiana to see the Indy 500. We drove down to Indiana and the car ride took about 6 hours. Once we arrived in Indiana we went straight to the hotel and slept. We arrived in Indiana at 1 in the morning. The following day we went to the Indianopolis mall. The mall was pretty nice but it was not nearly as nice as the Mall of America. There was a Gameworks in the mall and we spent about 5 hours there. After Gameworks we went to go see Iron Man. When Iron Man finished we went out to a Restaurant named Al's Steaks which had the best steaks ive ever had in my whole life. The following day was the Indy 500. We woke up around 6 in the morning to get on the bus to go to the stadium. There were thousands of cars and people there. The line itself took more than 3 hours due to the amount of people there. The race took about 3-4 hours. Each lap was a little more than 2 miles and they had to do 500 laps. That day was about 100 degrees outside. When the race finished we got on the bus and went back to the hotel. By the time we got back to the hotel it was already 12 at night. We went straight to bed when we got back. The following day we got to sleep in until 12 and then we had to leave to go home.

My Trip To Turkey
This summer (August) my family, including grandparents and uncles, traveled to Turkey. The reason we all went to Turkey was because my uncle recently married a Turk. The wedding took place in Minnesota, but for all the Turks that could not come we decided to have a big wedding reception in Turkey. This was the first time I had ever been on a plane. It was a 10 hour flight, which I think was way too long. The first day we arrived in Turkey we stayed and ate at our hotel in Istanbul. We were wiped out from the long plane ride. The second day we walked around Istanbul. Istanbul is the same size as St. Paul, but St. Paul has a population of 300,000 and Istanbul has a population of 17 million. As you can imagine there was barely any empty space there. It was buildings and apartments everywhere. After the first few days we rented a bus to take us down to Ephesus (city of ruins) which was located on the Asian side of Turkey. It was about a 8 hour drive to Ephesus. Ephesus had many ruins that have been excavated such as theatres, roads and libraries. After staying in Ephesus for about 2 days we drove 4 hours up to the city of Troy. Personally, Troy was one of my favorite parts of this trip. A lot of Troy was destroyed from previous archeologists, but there was still a lot to see there. After being in Troy for a day and a half we drove back to Istanbul which took another 4 hours. Once we reached Istanbul again, we explored many local cites where my new aunt grew up. She also showed us several Mosques (Muslim Churches). The Mosques had tilework everywhere in the inside. This trip took about 2 weeks. It was one of my most memorable experiences I have ever had.

Scotts
my name is scott schultz. this is my super cool blog, which i will personalize and make my own(but not post pics of myself on or use my last name on). I will always use appropriate language on my school blog and follow the conventions of the English language. The expectation of this assignment is that i post on my blog once a week for the remainder of the school year. I am expected to comment on texts that i am viewing in the world around me. These might include, but are not limited to: books, magazines, movies , internet articles, television shows, trips to museums, etc.
Each post should be at least 200 words. Each weekly post is due by 8am on that wednesday. Therefore, Q1 due dates are 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8 , 10/15, 10/22, and 10,29. That makes a total of 7 posts this first quarter. i understand that blogs are worth 100 points per quarter and are graded holistically( i will receive the rubric from Mrs. B soon). I also understand that blogging is a significant component of my quarter grade. By the way, what i have just typed is only 196 words! now it is 200!
